Lampwork Glass Bead Workshops

 



The BEGINNERS CLASS covers working with the
torch, understanding oxygen and propane tank safety,
the making of simple lampwork beads with an emphasis
on centering and shape control, pulling stringers,
polychrome decoration and cleaning and finishing. Kate
teaches glass work using either Italian rods or stained
glass scrap. The cost is $200 per day plus $20 materials
fee.

The INTERMEDIATE CLASS begins by diagnosing the
student's work and attending to correcting any weaknesses.
The student can then choose a direction of interest. Kate teaches

  Wirework Workshops

.....The BEGINNERS CLASS covers learning to use wireworking
.....tools,understanding different gauges of wire and why they're used,
.....studying different findings available on the market and how to make them
.....work in jewelry making, relative to the size and weight of different beads.
.....Students will learn to make simple earrings and bar pins, and to combine
beads with chain
 

to make professional level jewelry. The class is extremely interactive and Kate willingly
shares her suppliers and contacts with her pupils. The cost is $200 per day plus $20
materials fee.

The INTERMEDIATE CLASS begins by diagnosing the student's work and attending to
correcting any weaknesses. The student can then choose a direction of interest. The
emphasis of this class is on designing jewelry and ways to keep it flexible and easy to
wear and sell. Students will learn the classic Egyptian clasp, and will make a piece of fairly
intricate chain and bead jewelry. This class teaches the student how to stabilize beads with
varying sizes of holes so that the jewelry is elegant and will last for generations. The cost
is $200 per day plus $30 materials fee.
