African Trade Bead Granite Necklace. Beads are 200 BC to 300 AD from Mali. by Kate Drew-Wilkinson

This is a choker. It does not look like on on this model but this store display model is small so the necklace looks longer! Granite. These beads are from Djenne in Mali. They date from 200 BC to 300 AD. I cannot tell you how many it takes to find enough with centered holes that can pass over the cotton cord this necklace is made with. I thought I'd give you a picture of my collection, collected over about 30 years.. Every now and then I take them out and search around for the right size and shape to make jewelry for you! This choker is so good when it is on a lady's neck...18 1/2 inches long. The copper spacers are made in Kenya. Yes, it is strung on a strong cotton cord and lies well on the neck.
