African Trade Bead Necklace No.2
Yes, it is surprising but these are all trade beads. The Copper Hishi is from the Giriama tribe in Kenya. A friend of mine has been importing strands from there for decades. The Brown slices are Bauxite and the Blue ones, hmm I don't know. They are exactly the same size and are not molded glass. Rare though. The little spacers are lead safe pewter and the necklace is strung on 1mm Cotton thread, very strong! I made the Sterling Silver clasp to keep the necklace from having a modern look. This latest collection of Uptown Tribal necklaces is pretty androgynous! Oh and it is 39 inches long. I put the copper hishi at the nape because it would be more comfortable with these beads.
