Collectable Packed Glass Bead by Patrick Stern
$85.00
I will be presenting beads for sale here from my private collection and will try to give you as much information as I can about the artists...
This bead is made by the amazing Patrick Stern. He and I were teaching at the 1998 Sunderland Glass Conference at the National Glass Center. Actually he was demonstrating and there is no one who does it his way. He pre-makes the canes for his beads in a most fascinating way, flattening glass, layering in the colors and then sort of rolling it together the way a baker might! He makes beads by packing the canes around a mandrel and melting them together in a large kiln. He and his brother had in those days, a glass studio in Brixton, England and made large pieces.
I bought this bead from Patrick in Sunderland I think... I met him first when we were also both showing at the 2nd International Bead Conference in Washington DC, Dec 1990.
A lovely gentle and modest artist is Patrick!
This is how he described his work at the 6th Annual Stourbridge Bead Fair in 2008.
" Beads made in the course of exploring bead making at the furnace, rather than the torch. These include drawn and mosaic beads and disks in distinctive patterns."
